MASTERWORKS SERIES

TORONTO PERFORMANCE:
Tuesday, February 28, 2012 • 8 pm | Koerner Hall, Toronto

OP continues its exploration of the great Brahms symphonic opus with his brilliant Violin Concerto and 2nd Symphony.

We are pleased to introduce you to the extraordinarily gifted young Korean violinist, Ms. Ye-Eun CHOI, as guest soloist. One of the most promising violin talents to emerge from Europe, Asia and USA, since her 2009 debut with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Alan Gilbert’s baton, she has performed with many prominent world orchrestras.

During last night’s performance [with the New York Philharmonic under Alan Gilbert] she presented the audience with an interpretation of Mendelssohn’s love, jealousy, innocence and throbbing heart with an exceptional concentration that transcends her young age.
(Daily Economic News Magazine)

Ye-Eun is an extraordinarily gifted individual, with a truly impressive combination of musical sensibility and courageous virtuosity.
(Anne Sophie Mutter)

She looks like a model And she's got enough personality for two. But all this is overshadowed when the Korean reaches for her violin from Giuseppe Guadagnini, starts to play and becomes one with an instrument whose timbre is as lively and versatile as the human voice.

After 10 years the members of Emerson Drive are excited to have reached this career milestone and can't wait to see what the next 10, 20 or 30 years will bring.

Emerson Drive has been a part of the country music scene since they signed their first record deal with DreamWorks Records Nashville in 2001. The Abrams Brothers
THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2012 8:00pm

The Abrams Brothers, fourth-generation musicians who haved toured together for almost a decade, have become Canadian festival favourites. In 2005, the Ontario group became the youngest Canadians to appear on Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry. They’ve toured Europe, and have performed several times for the Jacob’s Ladder Folk Festival in Israel. In 2006, the band received the Daniel Pearl Memorial violin, awarded to especially gifted young musicians.

In 2009 the band released Blue On Brown, an album of songs by Arlo Guthrie and Bob Dylan. The legendary Arlo Guthrie said they were “way too young to be playing that good.” The video for the band’s cover of Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” made a splash on CMT in both the U.S. and Canada, and in 2010,The Abrams Brothers released a video on CMT for the single “Mermaid Town”.
The release of their first single, “Nothing At All,” to Canadian radio in 2011 launched the band on a tour on country radio and the CBC. The Toronto Star raved, “The Abrams Brothers have been blowing away audiences with their virtuoso playing and effortless harmonies, drawn on a long family tradition of bluegrass and folk music.”
With the release of Northern Redemption, The Abrams Brothers – John, James and cousin Elijah – make a transition from the music of their roots to their own distinct, high-energy, "Newgrass" sound.

PLEASE NOTE: Tickets will go on sale with passcode only on Feb 14, 2012. Sale will be open to the public at noon, Feb 21,2012.

Jeremy Hotz
FRIDAY, JUNE 8, 2012 8:00PM and
SATURDAY, JUNE 9, 2012 8:00PM

One of the most unique stand-up comics working today, Canadian born Jeremy Hotz has quickly become a proven international success. With another stellar performance at this year's Montreal Comedy Festival: Just For Laughs and his sold out Canadian theater tour "What A Miserable Tour This Is....", as well as performances all over the United States, Europe and Australia, Jeremy continues to grab audiences with his completely original and confused, yet very astute, observational comedy.
Originally from Ottawa, Jeremy began his career performing at local comedy clubs across the country.
In 1997, he performed at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and received a standing ovation after his debut performance at the festival's prestigious television gala. He returned to the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005 (voted Best Performer by the "Globe and Mail"), and 2008 (Chosen as Best in Fest by the "Montreal Gazette"). Recognition came quick, as American studios and networks showed interest and Jeremy was offered his first of many major development deals.
