ORIGINS PRESENTS - THE JONI BOOK

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2018  8:00 PM

Presented by:  Classic Concerts & Tours

Mandy Lagan and the members of Origins have been developing arrangements of Joni Mitchell songs. The music is heavily affected by the jazz influence as all members of Origins are jazz musicians.  Mandy returns to the stage for an engaging and enlightening evening with her extraordinary band, ORIGINS. A wonderfully creative group of Juno Award winning musicians will be presenting their innovative program of Joni Mitchell songs. These arrangements are fun, compelling and imaginative, inviting the listener to experience a new ride with their old favourites. She will be debuting new material, completing their two year project THE JONI BOOK (scheduled to be released October 2018).

Mandy has been performing, composing and recording since 1989. She settled in Toronto in 1990 and formed the band, “Cotton Avenue”, (named after a song from Joni Mitchell’s song book). With this band she explored some of her favourite Joni Mitchell songs while developing her own  approach to song writing. Mandy also began singing jazz standards and exploring her sense of improvising and arranging. In 2002 she released her first CD, “I Thought About You”, a collection of jazz standards, one Joni Mitchell song and two originals. In 2003 she released her second CD, “You See Me”, a selection of five jazz standards and five originals. In 2007 she released her third CD, “Verses”, a collection of Robert Louis Stevenson’s poetry which she collaboratively set to music with David Occhipinti, Andrew Downing, Joe Lagan, Carl Horton and Nancy Walker.

Mandy’s newest project brings her full circle, back to the music of Joni Mitchell. She is currently developing arrangements of some of her favourite songs from the Joni Mitchell song book with David Restivo, Ted Quinlan, Kevin Turcotte, Jim Vivian, Andrew Downing and Blair Mackay. Their CD, “The Joni Book” is set to be released in October of 2018 at The Lula Lounge in Toronto. Mandy currently lives in Toronto where she is singing, writing, arranging and performing, along with teaching classical piano.
